microfauna
Microscopic or tiny animals, such as protozoa and nematodes, that inhabit soil, water, or other environments. In native ecosystems and restoration areas, microfauna are essential for soil health—they break down organic matter, recycle nutrients, support microbial activity, and contribute to the base of the food web.
