geometrid
Geometrid (jee-óm-uh-trid) larvae are herbivorous and feed on the leaves of many native plants, making them an essential part of the insectivorous food web, especially as prey for birds during nesting season. In the Santa Cruz Mountains, native geometrids are supported by plants such as oaks, buckeyes, wildflowers, and chaparral shrubs. Some species also act as indicators of habitat quality due to their sensitivity to environmental change.
