transitional ecotones

Areas where two different habitats meet, such as where a forest transitions into a meadow. These zones often have high biodiversity, offering diverse food and shelter for wildlife. In the Santa Cruz Mountains, ecotones are especially important for wildlife movement and ecosystem resilience.
