The process of being flooded or covered with water, either temporarily or on a seasonal basis. In ecological contexts, it refers to the natural rise of water over land, such as during seasonal rains or stream overflows, which benefits wetland-adapted plants by delivering moisture, nutrients, and habitat renewal.
