inflorescence

An inflorescence (in-flo-ré-sen-ses) is a cluster or group of flowers arranged on a stem. Instead of blooming as single, separate flowers, many plants produce inflorescences where multiple flowers grow together in a specific pattern, such as a spike, cluster, or branching head.

This arrangement can help attract more pollinators, extend bloom time, and increase seed production. For example, California Buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum) and Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) produce dense inflorescences that provide nectar and pollen to a wide variety of native insects.
